VOX NOVA ANNOUNCES AUGUST 2018 CONCERT DATES FOR ‘A MINNESOTA CHRISTMAS’
Well-Known Clinicians Work with Emerging Composers, Conductors, Singers
Vox Nova Chorale will present and record its sixth season of music with free concerts Aug. 4, 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 5, 2 p.m., St. Mary’s Chapel at St. Paul Seminary, 2260 Summit Ave., St. Paul. “A Minnesota Christmas” will feature musicians from Midwest colleges and the local choral community performing holiday music of Minnesota composers such as Betinis, Carnahan, Christiansen, Clausen, Culloton, Jennings, Manz, Moore, Paulus, Shank, Takach, and Warland, plus new works from rising Minnesota composers, Michael D. Atwood, Isaac Lovdahl, Mitchell D. Peery, and Scott Senko.
Vox Nova’s mission is to encourage choral educators, conductors and composers, according to Vicki Peters, artistic director and conductor.
“Vox Nova offers something very unique,” Peters said. “We connect well-known conductors and composers with emerging artists in a six-week summer program. The choir members benefit from the experience and the audience gets to hear the stunning results.”
Two clinicians are participating in season six. They are Dr. Matthew Culloton, artistic director of The Singers, and Angela Broeker, director of choral activities at the University of St. Thomas.
Pre-sales for the CD, “A Minnesota Christmas,” will be available at the concerts. CDs will be available by mid fall. For more information, go to www.VoxNovaChorale.org
“This is our first recording,” Peters said. “We’re proud to make it all about the talented composers, conductors and singers here in Minnesota. Buy more than one and give them as holiday gifts!”
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Patrons’ donations help pay for music, venue rental and other expenses.

Fresh Talented Fields--MPR Spotlight Fall 2015
Vox Nova is a summer choral ensemble directed by Vicki Peters. The participants in Vox Nova are involved in all aspects of the choral art. Some conduct, some compose, some hone their skills as choral music teachers. "Rejoice O Virgin" from the Rachmaninov Vespers and Brahm's "Open Wide the Heavens" are highlights from this summer's Vox Nova experience.
VNC Receives Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Community Arts Grant
Vox Nova Chorale received $5,000 through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council for On the Horizon, two free concerts of classical choral music and original new compositions, in collaboration with three nationally known clinicians who will work with the young emerging singers and composers. Concerts will take place in August 2014 in Roseville and St. Paul. Presenting the check was Representative Alice Hausman (left). Receiving the check were Bill Haugen (center) and Vicki Peters (right).
The grants were awarded through a competitive process with funds from an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature and/or the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment. The organizations and projects chosen demonstrate both strong artistic quality and a connection to a community.
2013 Inaugural Season
"Saturday-Sunday: One element missing from this land of 10,000 choirs has been a place where some of the top singers from the state's college choirs can meet up with professional singers, conductors and composers to sharpen their skills. This summer, Vox Nova Chorale has stepped into that breach, becoming for choral singers something like what Colorado's Aspen Festival and School is for orchestral musicians. With a leader like former Summer Singers conductor Vicki Peters and clinicians like the Singers' Matthew Culloton and the National Lutheran Choir's David Cherwien, it's probably sounding pretty good."
